The postholder is the librarian in charge of the electronic library provision of the Army Library and Information Service (ALIS) on the Defence Gateway and Defence Intranet. The post is located within the ALIS Information Systems team (ALIS IS) which is located at the Prince Consort’s Library (PCL) in Aldershot. ALIS provides library and information services to Army personnel, both regular and reserves worldwide, and supports information needs related to operations, defence engagement and professional development.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week 

Job description

The role manages the electronic information accessible by Army Personnel worldwide. The post offers the developmental opportunity of expanding the electronic provision of ALIS to the benefit of Army personnel.


You are responsible for the development & maintenance of ALIS electronic presence on Defence Gateway and Defence Intranet.

You will liaise with electronic content suppliers for ALIS Online on Defence Gateway.

You will conduct statistical and qualitative analysis of usage of the electronic resources to inform decision making.

You will act as the electronic copyright focal point for ALIS 


You must have a Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) approved qualification or an overseas qualification recognised by CILIP as equivalent. Alternatively, you will have achieved CILIP certification (ACLIP) and have equivalent experience of professional information work or have an NVQ level 4 (or equivalent) in library and information studies plus experience of professional information work.
